Paimon opens the Ars Goetia's royal court: the ninth spirit, a Great King, more obedient to Lucifer than the other kings, says the Pseudomonarchia of Johann Weyer (1583). The Lemegeton gives him two hundred legions of spirits — a quarter of them from the Order of Dominions.
He appears crowned, seated upon a dromedary, with a hoarse, resounding voice, and before him go trumpets and every instrument of music. The grimoires insist the exorcist must receive him with honor — a king does not answer to disrespect.
His office is knowledge itself: 'he teacheth all arts, sciences, and secret things,' reveals the treasures of the earth, binds and looses dignities, and makes any man subject to the will of the magician. He gives good familiars — and demands precise speech in return.
